We were all deeply saddened to learn of the passing-away of Dr Pema Dorjee in Dharamsala today.

Dr Dorjee was one of the foremost experts on Tibetan Medicine. Born in Tibet in 1950, Dr Dorjee crossed the Himalayas to India in the aftermath of the Dalai Lama's flight in 1959. Dr Dorjee completed his medical studies in 1974 under the renowned Professor Dr Barshi Phuntsok at the Men-Tsee-Khang, also known as the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute.

Dr Dorjee was instrumental in the development of the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute (TMAI) in exile in Dharamsala, India, and has served terms as the Chairman of the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine.Dr Dorjee has been visiting the UK with Tibet Foundation since the late 1980s, most recently in May of this year. He was loved and greatly respected by Tibetans and Westerners alike.

Dr Dorjee leaves a wife, two daughters and a son.
