Job Description

Tibet Foundation (Charity No. 292400) is seeking to employ a Manager who will take hands-on responsibility for the everyday running of the charity.


Tibet Foundation is a small, non-political Tibetan Charity involved in the preservation of Tibetan Culture and relief of poverty among Tibetan People. We are based in London near Waterloo Station and our website is www.tibet-foundation.org.

Founded in 1985 we work in India, Nepal, China and Mongolia; in education, health care and economic development; helping Tibetan communities sustain their unique cultural and spiritual traditions. We also work in the UK and the West, to increase awareness of Tibetan Culture. We are a Tibetan-led organisation.

Tibet Foundation is run from a small office, currently with 2 members of staff plus several part time workers and volunteers. We are recruiting for an additional full-time manager who will be responsible for a wide range of work as directed by the Trustees. We are looking for a highly organised and motivated individual with an excellent skill-set, capable of taking the initiative and contributing constructively to the development of the organisation and its portfolio of projects. The role would suit a well-organised recent graduate or post-graduate, or someone returning to work after a period of absence. Suitable candidates will have a passion for Tibet or development issues, and be looking to develop a career in the non-profit sector.

Purpose of the Job

You will have a key position in the organisation, being responsible for the daily running of the charity.

Main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • General office administration
  • Communication with staff, donors and beneficiaries
  • Organisation of public events
  • Managing of staff and volunteers
  • Fundraising
  • Support and maintenance of overseas programmes.

Personal Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • strong numeracy, literacy and IT skills
  • initiative and flexibility, working both as a team and on their own
  • financial management skills and/or experience
  • strong motivation
  • excellent organisational skills
  • experience organising events
  • strong cultural sensitivity
  • a willingness to travel - potentially to remote areas and for extended periods
  • excellent written and spoken English, and a meticulous attention to detail
  • permission to work and live in the United Kingdom.

In addition the following would be advantageous:

  • proficiency in Tibetan Language and familiarity with Tibetan culture
  • knowledge and experience of the Tibetan diaspora
  • strong interest in Tibet
  • interest in the non-profit sector.

If you have excellent people, managerial and organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail and financial management experience, this might be the job for you. You must also have strong communication skills, and the ability to manage a large workload to tight deadlines. A background and interest in development and Tibet is highly desirable.


Location: based in Tibet Foundation's office in London
Hours: 5 days full time, 37.5 hours a week
Salary: £24,000. Annual increments possible subject to satisfactory performance.
Probationary period: 3 months.
