Here is a short report and some picture that we have received from the school.



Gyalten School was set up by Gyalten Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa in October 1994 as part of his charitable work to provide free education to the poor, destitute and disabled children of the local and neighbouring nomadic and farming Tibetan communities to ensure that they are not left behind and have access to the government-mandated nine-year primary school education.






The school is located at an altitude of 3,510 metres, in Rongbatsa District, Garze County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, People’s Republic of China.

With the help of donors like Tibet Foundation that has been supporting since the its establishment, Gyalten School has seen increasing improvement in the living conditions of its children, teaching quality of its teachers, and its infrastructure. Besides the official curriculum that includes Chinese, Tibetan, English, Mathematics, children learn sports, art, dance and music. Presently, it has 385 children and 35 staff members.

Graduates from Gyalten School over the past 24 years include: 75 qualified teachers and civil servants, 55 students currently pursuing higher education; 250 students who completed vocational studies; and 1,250 who became fully literate.

In the financial year 2017-2018, Tibet Foundation provided funding to Gyalten School for:

  • A complete set of traditionial Tibetan dresss for school uniform for every pupil
  • Construction of a gatehouse at the main school entrance for safety and security
